Before:
- What shapes do you think will be in the story?
- What time of the year do you think it is?
During:
- Using the map in the book: what do you notice? what do you see?
After:
- Revisit different positional language in the story and ask students to demonstrate it.
Extensions/Provocations (Small Group, Learning Centres, Whole Group, Transitions):
- Story Retell: Set out story props with book (could be set in building area or sand area)
- Small/Whole Group: Mapping (draw a path in classroom - include and explore positional language)
- Physical Education: create simple obstacle courses (using prompts guide students through obstacle course - e.g., "over the bench, around the hoop")
- Outdoor Play: bring out clipboards and materials to map outdoor play space
- Music and Movement: "Going on a Bear Hunt" - positional language
