During:

  • Page 8-9: What is happening? How many do you see in the bed?
  • Page 10-11: What is happening to the bed? Why do you think that is happening?
  • Page 12-13: What do you think happened?

After:
  • How many characters were on the bed?
  • Retell and Order: Who came on the bed first? Who came on 2nd?  Who got off the bed first?
  • How many more characters do you think could go on the bed before it would break? Why do you think that?

Extensions/Provocations (Small Group, Learning Centres, Whole Group, Transitions):
  • Texts that are related/similar: Emily's House or the Mitten
  • Small Group Problem: How many feet were in the bed altogether? How many feet are in your house? (provide materials, manipulatives to explore)
  • Retell Story: Puppets, felt board (using first, then, next or 1st, 2nd, 3rd language)
  • Building Area: Explore mass by building a bed structure and placing items on to investigate what might happen.
