Day One: Activating Prior Knowledge, Building Knowledge (making connections, oral language focus)
  • Bring in a typewriter: set up as a provocation (alternatively, show clip online of a typewriter)
  • Predicting Setting: who has been to a farm? What do you know about farm animals?
  • Today we are going to read a story about Farmer Brown, he has a really big problem, what do you think it could be?
Day Two: Five Finger Retell

Day Three: Vocabulary Development
  • electric
  • impossible
  • impatient
  • furious
  • neutral
Day Four: Higher Order Questioning (asking, discussing, reflecting - between the line questions)
  • Do you think the Farmer should have given the animals what they wanted?
  • What might the other animals want?
Extensions for Learning Centres or Opportunities to Engage with Writing:
  • Explore typewriters or keyboards in dramatic play or as a provocation
  • incorporate keyboard into literacy groups
  • create their own endings (set out book and encourage those interested to create other "wants" from other animals)
